LA indie rock trio Near Beer shares pop-punk coming of age anthem “Mixtape Generation,” taken off their upcoming self-titled album. Delving into the paranoia and nostalgia of the burden and anxieties of being a teen, the track is an explosive guitar-led production that oozes with carefree youthfulness.
With the strange existentialism of looking back at our younger selves, Near Beer capture an energy that free of burden yet melancholic as it harkens back to memories of the past.Sonically layering gritty, shouty vocals over a powerful guitar instrumentation to match, the track
is a relatable peek at the themes of the album, covering everything from insomnia and drinking to the intricacies of human connections.
Speaking of the inspiration behind the track, the band added: “It was inspired by eating some “magical” cookie, thinking that death was imminent, but making it to the other side to see how ridiculous the whole experience was—which feels like the appropriate metaphor for being in a band.”
“Mixtape Generation,” is accompanied by a music video which zeroes in on the nostalgic elements of its message, bringing to life the hazy quality of looking back at life events such as with the canned nostalgia style of wedding videos.
Consisting of vocalist and guitarist Joey Siara, drummer Brent Stranathanand bassist Jeremy Levythe beginnings of Near Beer was at a house party. From passing chats on indie rock bands to craft their space within the genre, the trio have come long way with their free-flowing creativity and expansive soundscapes – if “Mixtape Generation,” is anything to go by there’s much more to come from this promising act.
