Godly The Ruler explores the ‘Midwest’ in new single

One of the U.S’s leading lights in the world of hyperpop Godly The Ruler (They/Them) returns with a visceral, raucous production in the form of ‘Midwest’. Their new single comes ahead of a U.S tour following the success of their Dog Days album last month and it’s a track that showcases Godly’s nasty side. The track was written as a rebellion against what Godly calls  “this overarching feeling of normalcy that the midwest culture pushes. This song is about taking the reality of the midwest and the normalcy here and flipping it on its head.”

The track commences with thick, analog synth punches before the energetic drum pattern is introduced. It’s a track with frenetic energy throughout as Godly introduces their versatility with a rap verse and a sung top-line across the chorus. The lo-fi element runs throughout the track, with timing imperfections and a basic vocal production giving the track an authentic charm.
