Emerging Hadiya George is an ATL-based singer-songwriter who has done some background work with dance artists such as Honey Dijon and Horse Meat Disco. Now taking the reins of her career, she steps out on a solo mission with her debut release “Hot Flavor.” The self-produced track sees her collaborating with musical collective 3lo and the result is pure magic on wax. The dance track is peppered with soft organs, warm pulsating basslines that beef up the punchy dance drum arrangement while George’s mellow vocals butter up the track from start to finish. As a feel-good track, George delivers the package with her somewhat nonchalant flow and uplifting lyrics that dive into keeping one’s head up regardless of the dark cloud above.
The official video for the track has a warm, summer vibe and the retro aesthetics take center stage. Although it gives George some screen time, the majority of the shots center around her and her squad in several spots doing whatever it is they do to have fun. I do love the ode to those mid-’90s dance videos here as well where acts are put in a natural state sans the glitz and glamor and the use of the VHS grainy effect adds to that nostalgic feeling.
“Hot Flavor” is released as the first single from Melvo Baptiste’s new imprint The Remedy Project. The track is also a follow-up to her collaboration with Honey Dijon “Not About You”, which is featured on Horse Meat Disco’s LP Love & Dancing.
