Irish American singer-songwriter Ali Coyle has just shared her new single “Dreamkiller”. The song is the first music in over two years from the multi-instrumentalist following her critically acclaimed EP Songs For My Therapist. The single is shared alongside a storied and cinematic music video.
With “Dreamkiller”, Ali Coyle writes a song all about those fears in life that hold us back. Lyrics including, “Dreamkiller, you never leave my mind / Hold me back a little longer / My biggest fear is time,” show that Ali is aware of what’s in her life that doesn’t serve her but is also in a state of comfort not making those changes. Moving forward with transformation is scary and with her new single, Ali shares a relatable narrative of the difficult journey towards empowerment. Musically, “Dreamkiller” features atmospheric guitars and iridescent synths for a lush earworm. Her gorgeously smooth and authentic vocals are another highlight in this dream pop anthem. The music video edited by Justin Green, and directed by Sarah Vargas and Michael Klein is one of the best watches of the year. The story is a comedic yet important narrative of realization, friendship, letting go and ultimate making the effort towards a positive metamorphosis.
Ali Coyle fuses dream rock, indie pop, and folk for a nostalgic yet fresh musical envelopment. The Santa Ana, California artist is openly queer and a proud first generation Irish American. “Dreamkiller” is the latest addition to her growing and glowing musical catalog.
