UK emcee Carasel takes us back in time with the aptly titled nostalgic single “Flashback” which serves as the lead single from his forthcoming album. Backed by the punchy and solemn backdrop provided by longtime collaborator Crissy Criss, Carasel travels back in time to share some of the highlights of his childhood. From Sega games, Ghostbusters, Wu-tang albums, XXL/Source magazines, landlines, and many more fantastic pop references than you can wave a stick at, Carasel delivers the goods and pays homage to those memories that inspired him. The hook even lays into the theme as it uses a different reference of communication and musical formats starting with landline phones and walkmans and progressing to Whatsapp and Wav files at the finale whilst delivering numerous flashbacks to pop references from days gone by.
The record is bolstered by a solid visual representation shot directed by Joshua Perret who makes use of a truckload of effects and pop references from yesteryears. He even throws in some paper mache visual-styled effects collaging MSN, yahoo messenger, walkmans, MiniDISC alongside classic flicks such as Gremlins, Ghostbusters, and more.
“Flashback” is taken from Carasel’s forthcoming sophomore album dropping later this year. The LP boasts to showcase the lyrical dexterity of the Bristol emcee alongside sounds from some yet to be announced A-list producers.
