Emerging soul pop musician Ella McCready steps away from the upbeat dance pop she’s honed so far on debut EP Breathe, a collection of five tracks tied together by her powerful vocals and uplifting lyricism.
Opening with the title track, the EP pulls us in with soft piano-tinged soundscape and her velvety vocals, building slowly into an anthemic finish before moving into the cathartic offering “ I Choose You.”
Drawn from one of her own messy breakups, the uplifting track reminds us to let go off negativity – urging us to choose love, instead of hate. Following on the vein of empowering messages and catchy anthems, she delivers groovy number “ If It Wasn’t For You.”
She balances more upbeat soundscapes with the meditative feel of penultimate track “Unsaid,” finishing off on the gentle synth-tinged “What Its Worth,” bringing a stunning sonic journey through feelings of hurt, contentment, powerlessness, gratitude and self-love on a soaring ending note.
Having released seven singles in just a year,McCready has been working steadily to create a space for herself in music. With a strong vocal range and thoughtful song writing, Ella McCready manages to create something magical with each release she puts out.
