With “IF I EVER FEEL BETTER”, Evenson looks back at ending a relationship and the grief, regret and mistakes he made along the way. The song also chronicles an autobiographical, honest and raw narrative of struggling with mental health and how that has affected his relationships. Lyrics including, “I had the world and everything I wanted / I let you go / To be the man I promised / If I ever feel better,” show the pain and sadness he feels about his past decisions. Sonically, “IF I EVER FEEL BETTER” features steady basslines, upbeat and colorful beats under moody vocals. Infectious layered melodies in the chorus are the highlight of this irresistible alt pop track. The music video is beautifully shot and shows Evenson in a stunning backdrop of a modern house in the woods, isolated and full of sentiment and various emotions from depression, anger to guilt. The cinematic music video mirrors the heightened intense emotional upheaval of the track.
Evenson is a Haitian-American artist who draws on his unique upbringing to write introspective, vulnerable and healing alt pop songs. Influenced by the likes of ABBA and David Bowie, the songwriter fuses his own dynamic blend of pop, electronic, rock and R&B.
