Good Boy Daisy’s debut single “Grey” is packed with color

Phoenix-based duo Good Boy Daisy dial into the universal experience of love lost on “Grey.” Sometimes the colors fade so gradually right before your eyes in a way that leaves you wondering what went wrong. Twin sisters Hallie and Dylinn Mayes let themselves ponder this phenomenon over a playful track that doesn’t follow any rules and zig zags quickly from 90’s alt rock to the best of today’s eclectic alternative. The vibe? A blend of Young The Giant, Still Woozy, Remi Wolf, Glass Animals, and Grouplove, with just a pinch of Nirvana, Alice In Chains, and Rise Against.

With the help of Nick Anderson (The Wrecks), the identical twins struck gold in the studio, welding their childhood love for 90s rock with their present passion for boundary-breaking alternative music. “I would say that it took us a while to figure out what we wanted to write,” says Dylinn. “The only thing we knew in our musical vocabulary was grunge so that’s all that came out, that’s all we heard. So when we started listening to alternative music, we’re like ‘this is a whole different world and this is exactly what we want to write. This is what we like to listen to so why aren’t we writing it.”

The two have done everything together since day one, from soccer to art to music. In their early teen years, their dad bought them Rockband for Xbox and there was no going back. “The day we got it, we didn’t put it down,” recalls Dylinn. “We loved it. We played it every day. We’d come home from school, we’d not do our homework, and we just go straight to Rockband.” They even woke up first thing in the morning to play this game every day before school. Some underlying passion was drawing them in like nothing ever had before. Soon after, their dad gifted Dylinn a mini black and white Squier and Hallie a drum set (neither of them suspected that Hallie would come out from behind her drums and become a lead vocalist).

Good Boy Daisy has another single planned sometime in the next couple of months (also produced by Anderson). They say it’s even more wild than the first, with twists and turns you won’t expect and a lot of character.
