Emotive hip-hop artist J-Wright has been trying his hand at alt-rock this year, with 4 new and seemingly linked singles. Having dropped some notable alt-pop releases in 2018, such as Don’t Know Love, J-Wright’s been going at it for a while and we are not disappointed with the result. His new era was kicked off by “Poison // Antidote”, a combination of rock and hip-hop so good it’ll get stuck in your head. His most recent release “Silence” follows the standard set by the previous 3, let’s take a listen.
J-Wright sets the mood on “Silence” with a downtempo ukulele strum, capturing the emotional effect of the lyrics. Accompanied by minimal drums as it builds into the chorus, the artist eventually drops into an earworm of a chorus- he even included an infectious bass-line to maximize the harmonious effect. The calmness of the track encapsulates J-Wright’s own definition of “Silence”, combining with the lyrics to bring us along on his journey.
J-Wright is an artist to watch, and with 4 themed singles thus far it seems like there’s something big coming. We’re excited to tag along for this journey.
