MC Bravado’s new LP The Living Game is a 10-track project that dwells on the ups and downs of being an artist in these modern times. It’s an aural reflection of a wide range of emotions from hope, fears, happiness, and the realization that life will never be the same since he started this journey.
On the introductory track “No Shortcuts,” we get to see what a day in the rapper’s life looks like. From the unsolicited emails/ DMs and passive-aggressive looks to clout chasing, MC Bravado looks at his work ethic and opts to stay on the course rather than take short cuts. Joints like “Bye My Lonely (Warped Tour Diary)” takes a page from his personal diary and draws us closer behind the scenes with lines like “…when your old roommate just died and you have to fake a smile like you didn’t see him laid out a couple of days prior…”. “Corner Pocket” makes use of a classic soulful sample that rap lovers would recognize and sees him teaming up with Von Stacks for a solemn but inspiring tale of taking a gamble on oneself. Bravado flexes his lyrical biceps on “Clout (Ass Rappers,” an anthemic cut that throws shots at rappers that clout chase on social media. The closing track “Everything Passes” features Mike Evenn and it is as reflective as they come. It dives into the trials and tribulations of everyday men trying to keep their head above water and over a reflective mid-tempo boom-bap backdrop, the duo takes time to savor every passing moment as they look towards a better tomorrow.
In tandem with the album’s release, the previously released single “Like Kobe” gets a nice visual treatment courtesy of Mike Jon. The visual takes us on a ride up I-95 from Baltimore to New York, featuring appearances from professional ballers and streetball legends.
