Florida-based duo SOFI TUKKER is back with the visuals for the single “Forgive Me” featuring Turkish producer Mahmut Orhan. From the cinematic soundscape ripe with moody strings, layered synths, a steady guitar pluck, to the punchy four to the floor drums, the record raises the ante as it slowly builds into a frenzy on the chorus section. Led by Sophie Hawley-Weld‘s soothing airy vocals, listeners are easily drawn in by the airy and atmospheric aesthetics, with the songwriting being equally as emotionally engaging. The record dives into self-acceptance, self-forgiveness, and forgiving another for the harm they might have caused you. As the duo puts it, this cycle of forgiveness is the ultimate surrender and a path to inner peace.
As for the visuals, they team up with some collaborators including director Hakan Can , young Instabul-based choreographer Tanem Işık and styled by emerging Turkish fashion line NEW GEN. The result is a motif-driven piece that centers around the theme of forgiveness. We get to see Sophie and Tucker go against their doppelgangers in different situations until a resolution is achieved at the tail end of the video. The use of dystopian and moody set pieces sue adds a serious and somewhat cerebral feel to the visual and keeps listeners engaged from start to finish.
“Forgive Me” is taken from SOFI TUKKER’s forthcoming album WET TENNIS, which will be released on April 29th.
SOFI TUKKER, the genre-defying duo of Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern, is celebrated for their inclusive and global perspective on electronic music as well as their work’s themes of liberation, unity, and self-empowerment.
