The People Versus reveal atmospheric single “Lonely Teen”

The People Versus fuse celestial dream-pop and indie sensibilities on their new single “Lonely Teen”, following on from their previous singles which have seen support in the UK from the likes of BBC Radio 6 Music, Radio X and BBC Introducing as well as appearances on BBC News. The rapidly rising outfit show no signs of slowing down on the new track, exploring sexuality and difficult conversations with a raw honesty. This is a theme that hits close to home for lead singer Alice Edwards, with the band elaborating, “”Lonely Teen” was written after guiding a close friend through their coming out and the reflection it caused about Alice’s own coming out as Non-Binary and Asexual. It’s a song about difficult conversations.”

Sonically, “Lonely Teen” is dreamy yet grounding- pulling together flowing, intertwining melodies with organic samples and a rhythmic vocal delivery- brought down to earth by pulsing, metered drums and a consistent bassline. Comparable to the likes of Fleetwood Mac with a grooving, contemporary edge, “Lonely Teen” is unique in its delivery and exciting in its concept.

Alice further adds, “I used online safe spaces a lot in my journey discovering my asexuality – I learned about asexuality and queerness online, so any chance to try and pay that support forward is a blessing. As for coming out, I did it slowly. It can be difficult only knowing what you’re not, but after a few years I realized that I was asexual, and suddenly the pressure was off – same with my thoughts on gender, once I realized I could be agender, that I didn’t have to feel dysphoria – rather, focus on gender euphoria, everything became so peaceful and calm. I hope this site can offer both catharsis and a reminder of the community that loves you.”

The band’s infectious songwriting is putting on the map and a promising future is all but guaranteed.
