Inspired by the duo’s 5% Nation background, they deliver some gems and words of wisdom for those with two ears.
Lola Vista – “Get Up and Dance (Now)”
Singer-songwriter Lola Vista’s “Get Up and Dance (Now)” is a vibrant 90s-tinged funk, house tune ripe with acid jazz and soul vibes. The production is nostalgic and Lola’s smooth melody runs also capture that classic era with a twist of her own. Her rendition of the chorus is reminiscent of Michael Jackson‘s “Get on the Floor” as well but overall, this is a solid cut that we recommend.
Matt Storm – “APOLOGIZE”
Vancouver-based alt-soul artist Matt Storm caught our ears with his latest release “APOLOGIZE” and it’s the third single from his latest slew of releases. The production is warm, and soothing and uses a layered arrangement of lush keys, warbly guitar plucks, pulsating bass-driven grooves underpinned by Storm’s soft vocal tone and introspective lyrics that are centred on self-forgiveness and self-discovery. The lyrics are heartfelt and relatable as well.
Manga saint Hilare – “It’s Ok To Open Up (feat. Murkage Dave)”
Veteran rapper and songwriter Manga saint Hilare drops the single “It’s Ok To Open Up” taken from his new 16-track album Everything Is Under Control. The track employs a smooth texture and afrofusion drum groove and sees Manga teaming up with Murkage Dave for an insightful piece on mental health.
James Gardin – “Tear Down The House”
James Gardin continues his slew of releases with this new effort titled “Tear Down The House”. With his recent foray into incorporating different genres into his music repertoire, James employs an upbeat funk, dance soundscape made up of thick basslines, punchy drums and funky guitar riffs to deliver the message of joy and upliftment. He implores us to get down on our feet and scream and shout.
