Fort Meyers, Florida artist Cherele has shared a new album, titled NOSTALGIA IS DEAD. Across 9 tracks, the project showcases her versatility and outside-the-box approach to the Florida sound, powered by her commanding delivery and a set of hard-hitting, psychedelic instrumentals. This release follows up engaging singles “REAL GOOD” and “HOL’ UP” featuring Michael Aristotle.
The album opens in a bracing fashion with “LIGHTSOUT”, which finds her taking on a no-holds-barred delivery atop fierce production. The instrumental is somewhat indefinable, using winding, droning samples and booming 808s to conjure a mercurial, abstract soundscape. Album single “HOL’ UP” hooks the listener in from the get-go with addictive, immersive 808s and addictive, crisp percussion. Scorching and cathartic, “HOL’ UP” also finds her delivering some of her sharpest flows, sharing a natural chemistry with Michael Aristotle, who follows her and flows smoothly atop the stylish production. Tracks like “BAD HABITS” and “VIOLET FLAME” include an influence from classic 2000s hip-hop, while remaining refreshing and forward thinking throughout, showcasing her versatility as an artist. “REAL GOOD” is especially infectious, with spacey instrumentation that includes sinister, heavily affected synths and driving, clean percussion that grounds the track. Lastly, the project closes out with “CALL ME BACK”, which makes for a darkly atmospheric listen with its mysterious, smoky instrumentation and sleek vocals.
The latest from Florida’s Cherele, NOSTALGIA IS DEAD showcases her idiosyncratic style atop 9 hard-hitting, adrenaline-fuelled tracks.
