British/Swedish indie-rock quartet Ocna delivers reflective single “When,” combining layers of acoustic guitars and melodic keyboards with earthy bass and droning synths to lead into soaring vocals from singer Fiona Robertson.
A track rooted in the struggles of overcoming the loss of someone, the symphonic production makes use of Ocna’s trademark electronica stylings to craft a powerful yet heart-wrenching message on grief and guilt.
Managing to be ambient and uplifting despite the painful theme of the track, “When,” encapsulates humanity and its emotion within a sweeping combination of instrumentation. Robertson’s ethereal voice settles over a hypnotic arrangement of metronomic drum beats from Matt Burns, Dale Hudson’s flowing keyboards and Karl Nilsson’s lush guitars for hazy indie rock number.
Formed in 2019, this is only the second release from the Brighton-hailing four-piece who are well on their way to building up spiralling, majestic sonic worlds which seamlessly weave through joy, sadness and everything in-between.
