It may be midnight over in Japan, but Japanese duo Snowk are gracing our morning with their bouncy new single “I’m Lost ft. J.O.Y.” out today via Warner Japan. Opening gently with synch lines and pop-focused lyrics, the track goes right into positively punchy melodies, matched with a flirty atmosphere crafted by German artist J.O.Y’s vocal work.
The track is equal parts Duke Dumont meets The Weeknd. Taking inspiration from the former’s formula for uplifting crossover melodies and The Weeknd’s R&B tined lyrical content. Snowk put in solid work, making this track a feel-good, easy-to-listen-to hybrid. Utilizing their excitement for crafting the single, they were able to see the vision come to life by pivoting the initial direction. In an email correspondence with EARMILK, Snowk shared, “We first started the track as a remix of another song, but later on, we found that the rhythm and the overall mood of the track were embodying every aspect of our project “Snowk”. We decided to keep the instrumental and in a hurry sent it to a vocalist, J.O.Y. Snowk tells us about the origins of the single. The pair got their start releasing music with funky labels such as Kitsuné and putting in studio time with Lee Wilson, Shigge, Røse. Namy and Fuminori Kagajo found their early inspiration in an eclectic mix of R&B, Acid Jazz, and House music.
