Philadelphia-born and Los Angeles residing alt pop artist Tessa Kaye has just unveiled her latest single “Sunshine & Rainbows”. The track marks the first release of the year from the rising singer with promises of more music to come.
In “Sunshine & Rainbows”, Tessa Kaye explores how important it is to be open and vulnerable with our feelings. Sometimes the world is a difficult place and things are not always easygoing and happy and Tessa understands that it isn’t healthy to hide feelings. With lyrics including, “had to put a mask on / and find a role to play / keep acting like i’m happy / like everything’s okay,” Tessa confides that in the past she used to pretend to be content when she was hurting inside. She further sings, “it’s okay if i worry / it’s okay if i’m hurting / you’re acting like you’re perfect / but are you even worth it?” Acknowledging that human emotions are not always positive ones, the singer realizes that expressing how she truly feels inside is a strength and not a weakness. Sonically, “Sunshine & Rainbows” features tropical-dipped soundscapes full of color and emotion under Tessa Kaye’s soulful layered vocals. Her music is an enthralling genre-defying blend of electronic and indie pop with R&B-drenched vocals and “Sunshine & Rainbows” is no exception.
Tessa Kaye grew up in Utah to an adopted family and often struggled with mental health issues and identity from being a black girl raised in a conservative white Mormon community. The artist uses her vast experiences to craft relatable and deeply vulnerable music that touches listeners from around the world. “Sunshine & Rainbows” is the fourth single following last year’s “Smile More”. Take a listen to “Sunshine & Rainbows” and remember it is ok to sometimes be sad.
