Zinadelphia evokes neo-soul royalty on “Mirrorball”

Combining the weathered rasp of Joni Mitchell with the smoky iridescence of Amy Winehouse, aptly named Philadelphia native Zinadelphia is an anachronistic singer that leaves no note unturned in her sweeping audio exhibitions. The new offering “Mirrorball” is an infinitely replayable ode to some of the finest jazzy, soulful lounge music of the past 60 years.

Only her second single, following 2020’s “Sting”, Zinadelphia has not wasted her long hiatus between tracks, cultivating a large following of fans through TikTok.  Her smoky, retro-tinged inflections have clearly registered with a new generation as her fast-growing fanbase will attest.  The track will make you want to belt out the chorus over and over, “feels like I’m 17 again” Zinadelphia exclaims over jazzy saxophone and distorted Rhodes and guitar chords blurring into one another seamlessly.  Each line feels perfectly primed for an ear-grabbing quotable that will inevitably remain stuck in your head indefinitely.

Very few artists can write love letters to their genres quite like Zinadelphia just captured on “Mirrorball”.  A love letter and exploration of the future of jazz-influenced neo-soul, the Pennsylvania-based songwriter is a fireball of eclectic influences and dynamic talent that should not be taken lightly going forward.
