Orange County-based whimsical singer-songwriter Gal Musette has just shared a new French indie pop single. Entitled “Je Vois Le Ciel”, the track follows her release of Backwards Lullaby Reimagined EP shared earlier this year.
“Je Vois Le Ciel” was inspired by acclaimed French poet and screenwriter Jacques Préver. The single pays homage to song poems and consists of free verses interjected with wit. The emotive tune is all about the deep and penetrating feelings of loneliness and boredom. This highly relatable theme many of us have experienced during lockdown and Gal Musette brilliantly crafts a song that is deeply poignant. Lyrics include, “The thousand mornings that I spend all alone /I see the sky changing from gold to blue /I walk by foot /I walk everywhere /I see the sky but I don’t care,” she is despondent and isolated, wishing someone close to her was near. Musically, “Je Vois Le Ciel” thrills with dreamy warm vocals floating atop thumping basslines and spirited piano chords. Decadent theremin add another dimension to the stunning velvety baroque pop story.
Gal Musette began playing music at the young age of 10, writing her own songs and performing open mic nights in her hometown of San Clemente California. Her debut album, Backwards Lullaby shared last year received much critical acclaim and she enlisted the help from Rufus Wainwright on the single “Oliver” who sang backup vocals. “Je Vois Le Ciel” marks a new musical chapter for the prolific songwriter and we can’t wait to hear what is next.
