Filmore! revive hallway punk with new single “Where’s Your Hall Pass?”

The first single from Filmore! just dropped but it’s no typical debut.

“Where’s Your Hall Pass?” feels like a slushy made with the sweetest flavors of genres. At its core, it’s a rock track with droning drums and electric guitars, but the song combines rap, electronic, dance, even techno rave- if that’s even what you can call it. The explicitly fun lyrics draws instant comparison to old Tyler, The Creator. As the song evolves, parts of it become drenched with claustrophobic effects that urges you to give in: just stop thinking altogether, hop on, “Where’s Your Hall Pass?” is one hell of a ride.

The heist-induced music video serves as a great visual tool to capsulize the genres. How else can your brain comprehend the track’s resemblance to 2000’s gaming BGM, or pop punk soundtracks to schoolyard cult classics (“Jennifer’s Body,” for example), if not a video with shaky handheld cams, Reese’s Pieces guest starring as weapons and an endless chase from locker-filled hallways to boardwalks?

A new project by Max Zenga from Tebi Rex, Filmore! certainly establishes no limitation with “Where’s Your Hall Pass?” Every listen draws attention to new elements with its densely packed mastery. “Precisely insane” might just be the best way to describe this thrill ride of a track.
