Indie-dance duo Phantoms celebrates the release of the Deluxe Edition of their 2022 album This Can’t Be Everything, The Deluxe Edition of their sophomore album comes as a 2-disc release, with the second disc boasting a string of new music and fresh remixes of the album’s original tracks from top names in the space.
Preceding the Deluxe Album’s release, Phantoms teased the sounds sure to be featured with the dynamic, funk-fueled production “The Way You Groove,” as well as a driving remix of top album single “Firepit” ft. Big Wild by Dillistone. Other remixes that grace the second disc include contributions from Leo Islo, who remixed “Lay It All On Me,” Third Culture giving their take on “No Reason” as well as Fort Romeau’s reimagining of “Firepit” and Covex delivering a rendition of “Do You Want My Love. Another new original track “Crash My Car” is featured on the album, as well as an Alt Version of “Only You”, and a Deluxe Exclusive, extended cut of “Lay It All On Me.”
Sharing on the Deluxe release, Los Angeles based Kyle Kalplan and Vinnie Pergola share, “We’re extremely excited to present the deluxe album of This Can’t Be Everything. There’s some demo’s in here that we felt couldn’t make it into the original LP but knew we wanted to use them for something. We also have some extremely talented artists remix and reimagine some of the tracks from the original as well. We think all of this together provides a fresh new listen and take on This Can’t Be Everything and we’re extremely excited for you to listen.”
Exclusively for EARMILK, the duo details each of the tracks of the fresh, second disc Deluxe Album, track by track.
“The Way You Groove”:
“The Way You Groove” is meant to literally just be a groover. Sort of your inner-voice talking about loud as you watch someone you’re attracted to dancing. We toyed with the idea of adding more vocals to it, but we loved just repeating the main line over and over again and adding harmonies. It’s actually Vinnie singing on this number.
“Firepit” ft. Big Wild (Dillistone Remix):
Dillistone knocked it out of the park reimagining this track into a deeper, late night club banger. We love his warm production technique and we’re so happy that we got to have him added to this deluxe album.
“Lay It All On Me” (Leo Islo Remix):
Leo Islo really went above and beyond making “Lay It All On Me” even bigger and more atmospheric. The synths and percussion just make you want to close your eyes and get lost in the track, it’s beautiful.
“No Reason” (Third Culture Remix):
“Absolutely love Third Culture’s take on No Reason. The addition of those warm 80’s chords and dreamy synths on the last drop just take this track to a whole other place.”
“Crash My Car”:
“We wrote this about one third of the way into the writing process. The vocals were actually just recorded on Kyle’s phone and we decided to just leave them as the final vocal. We kind of loved how simple and short it was and how “to the point” the lyrics were. Even though it’s just this small weird track we kept coming back to it. It didn’t quite fit in the album itself so that’s the main reason we wanted to put it on the deluxe.”
“Firepit” ft. Big Wild (Fort Romeau Remix):
“Fort Romeau’s incredible synth work and structuring compliments the original track so well and takes you to another place. Such a fan of his music, so it was an honor to have his remix be a part of this deluxe.”
“Do You Want My Love” (Covex Remix):
“We’ve been fans of Covex for a long time and his remix of “Do You Want My Love” is so beautiful and surprising. He took our nu-disco adjacent original and turned into this warm and progressive track. Gorgeous synths and textures.”
