Hailing from Suffolk, UK, Loome is the moniker of multi-instrumentalist, producer and songwriter Tomas Frankson.
The EP’s lead single “talking to strangers” features fellow up and comer Oktae and is without a doubt the pinnacle of the EP with its quirky production, driving pop beat and cut-through bouncing bassline that conjurs up images of a retro analogue synth. Sugar-sweet vocals elevate the track, taking on a duet form that is self-aware and raw.
Talking about the single, Loome explains, “opposites make life so vivid, think ‘love/hate’ or ‘life/death’; they’re emotive by default! When Oktae and I got together to write, we wanted to look at the newest dichotomy of recent history, music festivals versus lockdown. We wanted to write a song about reconnecting to the world. To bring us back, to re-centre us, to heal from the trauma of it all. To get back to Talking To Strangers for no reason at all other than the joy of it.”
The EP as a whole shape-shifts from chart-worthy singer/ songwriter-tinged cuts to bedroom pop inspired tracks. Loome’s vocals are at the forefront throughout, sitting gracefully above is momentum-giving beats, delivering melodies that shift from melancholic to optimistic.
“talking to strangers” was mixed alongside producer Venjent and then the legendary Mike Hillier (Rag N Bone Man, Genesis, Clean Bandit, Kasabian) at Metropolis Studios.
