Matt Ó shows off his sun-soaked Hip-Hop sound on “SONNY”

Blending indie sensibilities with a silky-smooth R&B flow, Irish artist Matt Ó makes his hip-hop influence known on “SONNY.” Featuring Ahmed Ahmed, who contributes grittier bars to the optimistic, sun-soaked guitar tones, Matt Ó’s reflective vocals pave the way for a powerful infusion of rap.

The glittering guitar riffs, though not a complex offering, are the laidback, pool-side tone that we’re desperately in need of this summer, and the artist who found success as one hand of alt hip-hop duo Tebi Rex shows that he’s just as potent an artist when he works alone.

Writing solo material was inspired by a childhood experience at school, during a creative writing exercise. The work Matt handed in received the response “I can tell that you wrote this because you thought I’d like it. Instead, you should write about what you know — not what you think others are interested in.”- a motto Matt Ó stands by to this day.  On “SONNY”, he speaks from the soul with his melodic delivery and charismatic, open lyricism, giving us a lesson we can all learn from.
