Memphis based eclectic singer/songwriter Nick Black returns with a soulful pop gem. Entitled “Filler”, the song is the first of the year following last year’s album release Twitch #1.
“Filler” explores the grass is always greener mentality that many of us can find ourselves in. From feeling that our significant other is just filling a void and being a placeholder for the ultimate love we want or think we deserve to being complacent with following our dreams, Nick Black brilliantly details the often stuck mentality that plagues everyday life. Lyrics highlighting this narrative include, “ready for change / but I keep on stalling / knowing that it’s a mistake / I need an escape / but you keep on calling / you are not the one I want / just the one I am with.” Sonically, “Filler” is an infectious downtempo commercial pop tune filled with layered vocals, bright stripped-down guitar riffs and bouncy synths.
